POP Wheel
Fitting Even before I finished my POP I had problems
with the wheel rims falling off. I am very dubious of any glue that
claims to be able to stick rubber to metal so I cam up with this drastic
solution. I decided to bolt the types to the rim. I did this
nearly two years ago as so far have experienced no further problems.
An alternate technique would be to use a flexible glue as used on the Burrell's
tyres. My
method was to tap 6 4BA blind holes at 60 degree intervals around the circumference
of the wheels. I used a dividing head to ensure accuracy though it
may be possible to make some form of template.
This picture shows the finished parts ready for assembly.

Centre drilling at 60 degree intervals using a dividing head, prior to
drilling and tapping 4BA. Use the stop on the drill so that all holes
drilled to a constant (7mm) depth.

Without removing the rim from the dividing head, mount the rim and drill
though 4BA clearance. After the first hole bolt the rims temporarily
in place so that all subsequent holes are in register.

Using a 1/4 inc slot drill counter bore the tyre. So that the screw is
just in contact without compressing the tire set the depth stop off a
screw temporally screw tightly in place.
After assembly the counter bores are
filled using a hot glue gun. My only concern is the cutting the
tyres may cause cracks to propagate in the rubber - time will tell!
