![]() Not so many bits this time but those plates are heavy. Wednesday: I was surprised to find a card
waiting for me when I got home today since I was not expecting kit 9 until
next week. I won't be making a start tonight other than
checking over the kit and reading the instructions. My procrastination
over painting must end! At the very least Steve suggests paining
the inside face of the hornplates. |

| Friday:
Made a start on one of the Hornplates. This was relatively
straightforward but I did find it useful to stand on a box. With
the hornplate held in the vice I found the top edge uncomfortably high,
hence the box.
I did not have the stamina to cut through the "Teflon" coating so I just cleaned the plates as best I could with a wire cup brush in the power drill. Monday: No activity for the last few days. I just seem to have so much else on. |

Friday 2nd July: Managed to find a few hours to get on with the Burrell today, though I doubt if I will get much time in the coming week. I tackled the other hornplate and am partway though fitting the steering brackets. Saturday 10th July: Finished off fitting the steering brackets and cleaned up the spectacle plates. Apart from painting this just about finishes kit 9. (28/8/05) Both the front and rear spectacle plates required modifications. The front spectacle plate required two large holes drilling to accommodate the governor drive belt and the bottom trimming to avoid clashing with the boiler. The rear spectacle plate required the four holes around the larger bottom hole countersinking so that the steam head may be fitted. This plate cannot be finally fitted until the steam head is attached (kit 21). Sunday: Trial assembled the Hornplates to the tender (see picture at bottom). The fit was nice and snug, with all the holes lining up. As noted in the instruction one of the bolts holding the beading needed to be changed to a counter-sunk screw.
Saturday 17th Went to the Guildford Rally and brought all the paint I need to get on with the tender and hornplates. Also of interest was the ModelWorks prototype Burrell which was on display sporting a Racing Green colour scheme. The account continues and covers painting the tender and hornplates. |
