This web site contains an account of my experiences building steam locomotive kits supplied by ModelWorks as a series of ready machined kits intended to be assembled on the kitchen table with the minimum of equipment. I am an ordinary customer and the material contained here represents my personal view. I am both the author of this web site and the constructor of the featured POP & Burrell models. While I have some model engineering experience I am definitely not an expert. I have now completed construction of the Pride of Penrhyn which is a 1/5 th scale freelance overtype steam lorry often referred to as POP. Even though construction is finished I have been enhancing and improving POP. My accounts describe how I have prevented the tyres shedding and added footrests. I am currently building the 4" Burrell. I have adopted a diary format in which I give a day by day account of progress as it happens. During a kit build I tend to update the site several times a day, in fact every time I stop for a cup of tea. I have found that writing about a tricky step helps me complete it successfully. I have noticed that it can take several hours for updates to reach all of the Pipex servers and this can result is some strange effects. For example the site can be shown are updated while the updated page is not yet available. (try holding down the control key while clicking refresh) I take a lot pictures and use a few of them to illustrated my account. Even though I reduce the resolution they may take some time to load if viewed through a slow internet connection. I am a desk bound chartered engineer producing paper during the day. I have been interested in model engineering for many years and this provides an avenue to vent my frustration of never making anything at work. Unlike many of ModelWorks customers I have a well equipped workshop. I have mainly built stationary engines and workshop equipment. My most challenging project to date has been the Bodmer Sliding Cylinder Engine because I had to fabricate many of the components without the aid of castings. I have just restarted construction of a 1 1/2" Marshall Portable Engine which I started and abandoned about ten years ago. This will keep me occupied between the delivery of each kit.
I like to hear from surfers to this site whether or not you are a builder of the ModelWorks Burrell. You can use the e-mail link to send an e-mail directly to me or add an entry to the guest book, which will then be accessible for all to read. I would also welcome material from other constructors but don't worry, I will not publish anything unless it is clearly marked for publication. e-mail to: SPAM: I have been getting a lot of spam to the e-mail account I use on this web site. To reduce this I intend to periodically change the email address so please always refer to the link above when contacting me. Copyright
